Powerpoint: Realities of Online Life

This morning I stumbled onto a great powerpoint presentation crafted by the Pew Internet & American Life Group — The New Realities of Online Life. Although pretty basic information, it really speaks to the power of the Internet as a medium and how much it has (and will continue to) change our way of life.

  1. Interesting PPts. I loved #3, the one showing the web of connections between media devices. Reminds me of the wiring behind my computers here in my home office.

But the best is the last slide about how boundaries are breaking down. I think you ain’t seen nothing yet. I think we’re going to have a host of sensors and actuators embedded in us that will read in real-time the many things going on inside us. It will be relayed out to us, doctors, and–shudder–Homeland Security.(http://www.fispace.org/home/2005/03/hello_this_is_y.html)I call it “outing of in-formation.” You know, “We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.”
