Environmental activists and regulatory agencies have not looked favorably upon “pharming” projects. They don’t trust that the transgenic plants, crops with foreign DNA added to their genome, won’t contaminate other crops. The result could be disastrous: Medications could make their way to people for whom the drugs were never intended.
