I’ve just been in Second Life with ACS colleagues. We were at a Future Salon meeting and then got together at the Relay For Life site. I understand we’ll have another Relay event there this summer. The last Relay there netted $6,000. Hey, that’s pretty good for a start. Hopefully we’ll have a permanent presence there, a "virtual" unit. I’ve gotta say, to pull it off, it’s going to take some practice.
In the pic below the blond lady is Sarah Goodwin (aka, Sail Perhaps), the guy in the white t-shit in the background near the Relay sign is known as Michael Pixel. (Sorry, I forgot your real world name.) I’m in the t-shirt in the foreground. The dude in the black suit is somebody just walking by. He may become our first volunteer recruit for the next Relay. You think I’m kidding?
If you want to try out Second Life you can get a free trial account here. If we’re going to build capacity we’re going to need a lot more people involved. Lemme know if it appeals to you.
This was an interesting event on Democracy Island today! Yes, I am Sail Perhaps and our newest Society Second Life member [and NHO internal communications team member] is Michael Driscoll aka Mackerel Pixel. We did get a chance to meet an intersting blogger in the real world and visited him on slackstreet on SL [this guy is a sophisticated and friendly member of SL – his name is Spin. As we get to socialize more we will let more people know about Relay For Life!

Thanks, Sarah, for straightening me out about Michael–aka, Mackerel. You’re right about Spin. It’s all about building relationships.
