Giving though your cell phone is the next big fundraising trend. Donors will soon be able to make charitable gifts by using their cell phones to send text messages.
To give, individuals with cell phones capable of text messaging will send a message to a particular number using a key word . They will receive a reply asking them to confirm their donation, which will appear on their next cell phone bill.
"We’re still learning about this new avenue of giving", said Jeffrey Johnson, the president of Wireless Giving Association (www.wirelessgilving.org), pointing to issues such as privacy and SPAM that he is concerned about once the campaigns begin. "But just as online giving is growing , I think we’ll see strong growth in text messaging gifts once people get used to the idea."
