Yesterday the Pew Internet & American Life Project released another study. Don’t you just love those folks at Pew? Just when you think you’ve learned a new compelling statistic about the Internet and technology and lifestyle, they outdo themselves with new information.
This study, Growing Numbers Surf the Web Just For Fun talks about how users have already been surfing for purposeful activities (communicating, looking for information, doing research, etc). And now they’ve added web surfing – that is, going online without any real purpose – to the list.
"Many people have described the internet in terms of different purposeful places: a library, a shopping mall, or a post office. Now we can add ‘destination resort’ – a place to go just to have fun or pass the time – to that list"
