Is your nonprofit engaged in advocacy activities at the local, state, and federal levels? If so, have you considered using Twitter and text messaging to call your volunteers to action?
Let’s say you’re advocating for a particular ordinance or bill. In lobbying your representatives, you’ve discovered who is for you, who is against you, and who is on the fence.
If you have asked your volunteers/members/advocates to opt-in to receiving text messages or asked them to follow your cause on Twitter, then you have two additional ways to call them to action.
If I receive a text message or a tweet on my phone, I’m liable to contact that representative right then and ask him or her to support our position.
When events begin to speed up, twittering and texting may be the difference between success and failure.
The good news is, both have minimal impact on a nonprofit’s budget.
