Wired News: It’s Just the ‘internet’ Now

Okay, it’s official: Wired has just declared that the “I” in Internet should no longer be capitalized. No more Web or Net either, just web and net. Wired has spoken!

  1. Haha I saw this article this morning as well. I for one will still be a Online Communications Director who has a Web page on the World Wide Web. I know that is a lot of captilization but I am just now teaching people in my Division to do it. So no going back now! LOL

  2. Well, in ACS we often have our own rules for capitalization. We capitalize National, Division, Unit and other things that violate the style guides of the publishing world.

  3. Yes I noticed that as well. And why is it we have to call ourselves the Society, instead of ACS when we refer to ourselves? I think that makes us sound like a cult….

  4. Quite a few staff seem to say, “I’m an ID Rep for the [blank] Division of *your* American Cancer Society,” though. So if we are a cult, we’re one that wants to be everybody’s cult. 🙂

  5. No matter what Wired says, it won’t change anything for us until the Cancer.org Style Guide changes. The Wired Style is a reference for the guide, so prepare for the change.

In the capitalization war, we are still battling to get people to capitalize the “F” in Relay For Life.

  6. Nice to see you on here Karen. Be sure you drop by more often!
