Gaming for Change
Have you heard of http://freerice.com/? If you’re not familiar, FreeRice is a game. You answer questions on English vocabulary, world geography, or a host of other options, and for every correct response you give, their advertisers (very unobtrusive) donate 10 grains of rice to the UN World Food Programme.
Doesn’t sound like much, does it? But since it’s launch in 2007, FreeRice has donated 75,185,220,620 grains of rice!
That’s gaming for good – and the fine folks at NTEN have got Suzanne Seggerman, Co-founder of Games for Change, to talk about her experiences and answer your questions about using video games for tackling social issues at our next Ask the Expert Session.
> Register today! It’s FREE for NTEN Members

“The 10NTC session submission process yielded so many great session ideas, we couldn’t include them all on the agenda. So, we decided to include some of the ones we couldn’t fit in a webinar series divided into 2 tracks. And they’re coming right up.”

501 Tech Club – Kicking your Browsers Ass: How To.
So I organize two monthly meetings here in Austin, TX. One is the rip-roaring, always packed Social Media Club with Mike Chapman and gang. The other is the always interesting, yet sparcely attended 501 Tech Club with Dale Thompson.
Why is that? Don’t we have over 6k Non Profits in Central Texas alone? So let’s change that this month. Let’s get over 60 people to this months meeting for my friend and client Ehren Foss.
The topic? How to kick your browsers ass.
What does that mean? From Ehren ” We’ll cover some tips, tricks, and tools you can use to make you a lot faster and more efficient at using your web browser.
When using your org’s tools, are you doing the same thing over and over again? Do some things take 5 or 10 steps when one step would suit you just fine? Check out the wonderful world of browser automation! A lot of us spend all day in their web browsers – why not make the day as efficient as possible and spend time on what is important? You might even be able to accomplish some things that would otherwise require expensive custom development.”

Can you help AustinInvolved Refresh?
Hey All,
As you might have heard former Planet Cancer rockstar and friend of mine Courtney is launching a new volunteer movement here in Austin. I’ve already talked to her about Lights.Camera.Help. and as always she is eager to help. So take a second and check out the letter she sent me today and then go vote:
“As you may or may not know, I’ve been hard at work on a new project to launch a new volunteer movement of young professionals here in Austin, Texas. This is an innovative new program – giving people the opportunity to discover dozens of nonprofits who need their help and to give back in a way that’s impactful, accessible and affordable.
Austin Involved is launching in the next few weeks, and our organization is in the running for a $25,000 grant from Pepsi. If we receive enough votes to be in the top 10, we’ll win the money to start this amazing volunteer and philanthropic group.

You can vote every single day until February 28th – so please help me start this organization. It is my passion, and it is something our city (and our world) needs.
Please vote every day to help us send hundreds of newly-minted volunteers out into the world!”
